DAY 1 Welcome – ¡Bienvenidos!

Arrive in San Jose and meet your Immersion Abroad Costa Rica (IACR) coordinator at the airport. Travel to the IACR Program Center in Atenas for an authentic Costa Rican meal and important trip orientation. Enjoy a relaxing evening exploring Atenas. (L)

DAY 2 La Paz Waterfall Gardens

After a typical Costa Rican tropical breakfast we will start the day with a conversation Spanish class to learn the essentials for communicating with locals.  We will continue the day with a drive to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens to explore some of the most beautiful and famous waterfalls in Costa Rica. DAY 3 Irazu Volcano – Lankester Gardens

We begin today’s adventure with a visit and moderate hike up to the Irazu Volcano – the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. From there we will head to the Lankester Botanical Gardens, one of the most active and important botanical institutions in the neotropics. With several thousand cultivated orchid specimens on-site alone, this garden is a tropical flower oasis. (B)

DAY 4 Manuel Antonio National Park – Central Pacific

With an early start we will begin our overnight adventure to the central pacific coastal area of the Manuel Antonio National Park – one of the world’s 12 most beautiful national parks according to Forbes Magazine. On the way we will stop for a tree canopy zip-line tour, and we end the day on the pristine tropical beach of Manuel Antonio. (B,L)

DAY 5 Manuel Antonio National Park – Central Pacific

Famous for its expansive white sand beaches backed by an evergreen forest we continue our adventure through the Manuel Antonio National Park. Led by a local naturalist guide, we will observe exquisite and abundant flora and discover how the rainforest, beaches, and coral reefs all intersect in this world-renowned park. (B,L)

DAY 6 Carara National Park

In the morning we will head out for a guided tour of Carara National Park, also known as  “Scarlet Macaw Paradise”. Carara boasts a large population of breeding scarlet macaws, capuchin monkeys, anteaters, parrots, araucarias, kingfishers, and more. (B)


Today offers a one-of-a-kind learning experience at a local organic coffee farm. Learn about sustainable cultivation techniques and discover why coffee is one of Costa Rica’s most important exports. Thenget ready for a night to remember in the capital city of San Jose as we attend a cultural performance at the historic National Theater or Salazar Melico Hall. (B,L)

DAY 8 Puntarenas Tortuga Island

After an early departure we will head to the unforgettable Tortuga Island. There we will enjoy a catamaran ride along the Pacific coast overlooking pristine blue water, white sandy beaches, and emerald shaded mountains. This paradise island offers a day full of sun and recreation, good food and great views. (B,L)

DAY 9 Departure

IACR staff will take you to the San Jose International Airport where we will say our final adiós. (B)
