DAY 1 Welcome – ¡Bienvenidos!

Arrive in San Jose and meet your Immersion Abroad Costa Rica (IACR) coordinator at the airport. Travel to the IACR Program Center in Atenas for an authentic Costa Rican meal and important trip orientation. Enjoy a relaxing evening exploring Atenas. (L)

DAY 2 La Fortuna Arenal

Led by a naturalist guide, you will enjoy the beauties of the Arenal Volcano, one of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes, followed by a relaxing rafting trip down the Peña Blancas River. We will pass through habitats indigenous to wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, colorful dart frogs, and more. (B,L)

DAY 3 La Fortuna Arenal

Today we will spend time in the picturesque town of La Fortuna.  Visit the town’s beautiful cathedral in the heart of the central plaza. This afternoon we will soak up tranquility and unwind in the medicinal waters of Baldi Hot Springs Spa. (B,L)

DAY 4 Monteverde Cloud Forest

After breakfast we will drive to the world-renowned Monteverde Cloud Forest, known as “the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves”.  Explore the local village of Santa Elena with its abundant art galleries, excellent cuisine, and gift shops.  This afternoon we will stroll through the Orchids Garden which houses more than 425 different orchid species. DAY 5 Monteverde Cloud Forest (cont)

This morning we will begin our guided tour through the cloud forest as we seemingly stroll through the canopy of the Monteverde rainforest. This “sky walk” is a combination of suspension bridges and moderate walking trails overlooking canyons and drainages. Prepare to go face to face with the best the cloud forest has to offer. (B,L)

DAY 6 Guanacaste Playas del Coco

Our journey continues while en route to Arenal Lake, the country’s largest landlocked body of water.  We will stop for lunch at an authentic Guanacaste restaurant to enjoy mouthwatering cuisine before heading to the Pacific Golden Coast. We arrive at Playas del Coco where white-gray sands sit in a horseshoe-bay hugging the blue-gray Pacific waters. (B,L)

DAY 7 Catamaran Papagayo Gulf

Today we will take to the waters for unforgettable catamaran tour of Papagayo Gulf. Our tour includes visits to various bays, anchoring and exploring secluded beaches, snorkeling the refreshing clear waters, and even just relaxing on deck sipping cocktails. Our evening ends with a magical sunset as we glide along the Pacific waters. (B)

DAY 8 Atenas – San Jose

After breakfast we will return to the town of Atenas and receive a therapeutic massage given by a local certified massage therapist.Thenget ready for a night to remember in the capital city of San Jose as we attend a cultural performance at the historic National Theater or Salazar Melico Hall. (B,L)

DAY 9 Departure

IACR staff will take you to the San Jose International Airport where we will say our final adiós. (B)
